Guidance of Dreams
On a blazing sunny summer’s day, I had the wonderful opportunity to go out on the land with a dear friend. We brought gifts of flowers and berries from my friend’s yard and tea from plants and berries in my and my daughter’s garden. We offered them to the river, the wise old cedar at the riverbank, and shared these gifts together. We sat side by side with our feet in the river, being visited by crayfish, dragonflies, spiders, and a welcomed breeze. Our time felt held and honoured by these beings, and their wisdom seemed to be thread into the depth of our meaningful conversations about the pain and beauty of the earth in this time and our place as humans to foster healing. That night, I had a dream that carried on these same themes.
I dreamt that a man was trying to appear impressive by associating himself with inheriting properties of land that were in his family. I reflected that even if he did come to inherit something, it would only be one of the properties, and he had already consumed more than this. He had spent what was not his and was trying to appear wealthy for what he likely will not inherit.
The man was telling me he chose not to wear glasses because they make him feel sad. He was choosing not to see to avoid feeling sadness. I shared with him that I thought he needed to process his sadness, and that if he did, he would no longer fear sadness, that he would move through those feelings and would then be able to see things more clearly.
These dreams, the presence of the river, my friend, the old cedar and earth beings, all seem to call together invitations for people to progress through our healing work, and to relate to the earth from this evolved place. We as humans are avoiding facing our own sadness, those who identify with male roles are taught to not feel sad but to be tough and angry instead. Many of the people in power right now are acting from this place and causing tremendous destruction for people and the earth. We are living at a time where is it part of the common madness to spend the earth and use Her up for the appearance of short term wealth.
Instead, we can move through our feelings and find that we do not have to fear sadness, that it can transform into identifying what we hold as sacred. We can remember how to be in respectful relationship together. Instead of desecrating what is sacred because we fear the power present, we can step into humility and find ourselves as welcome kin in a collective of sacred beings.
As we move through this unknown time, I invite you to listen to the messages that present themselves in dreams, to turn your hands and heart to the earth, to come together with others as we collectively imagine our way forward.
Earth blessings in this time.
Sincerely,
Melissa
“In choosing our story, we not only cast our vote of influence over the kind of world future generations inherit, but we also affect our own lives in the here and now. When we find a good story and fully give ourselves to it, that story can act through us, breathing new life into everything we do. When we move in a direction that touches our heart, we add to the momentum of deeper purpose that makes us feel more alive. A great story and a satisfying life share a vital element: a compelling plot that moves toward meaningful goals, where what is at stake is far larger than our personal gains and losses. The Great Turning is such a story.”
